Jinja District Union of persons with disabilities

We are JIDU (Jinja District Union of Persons with Disabilities), this union was formed with the purpose of uniting all disabled persons in Jinja district to have one voice as a group in order to have improved standards of living and rights.

Vison

A society in which People with Disabilities are self-reliant, and have equal rights and opportunities.

Misson

To advocate for improved standards of living and rights, through mobilization and inclusion of disability issues in mainstream development programmes

Objectives

  • To reduce on social exclusion of PWDs to achieve integration in the main stream development programs.
  • To advocate for the full rights of  PWDs in a unified voice of improved livelihoods.

As an organized union we have managed to put up some programms and activities . Below are some of activities we are engaged in :-
• Support model IGAs for advocacy
• Conduct monitoring and support supervision to group IGAs
• Mobilization of PwDs into groups for registration and linkage to livelihood development programmes.
• Support PwDs Groups to have access to information on improved products and markets

WHAT WE DO

Disability and Human Rights
  • Community sensitization to promote positive attitudes and support cultural values that benefit PwDs at the community level.
  • Training on human rights and responsibilities in service delivery to strengthen the capacities of communities and social service providers in the government and private sector to provide disability-friendly services.
  • Advocating for the availability and utilization of affordable assistive devices and appliances.
